Dawes Leads “I Love L.A.” Show Opener at 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards®
To honor the people of Los Angeles and the communities affected by recent wildfires in the region, folk rock band Dawes took to the stage at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards® to open the show with an inspiring rendition of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” Joined by a supergroup of previously announced GRAMMY® performers Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, and St. Vincent, Dawes made a surprise appearance at Music’s Biggest Night®, taking place today at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Recording Academy® Leads Federal Effort to Limit the Use of Song Lyrics in Court
Today, Recording Academy® leaders and members joined Congressmen Hank Johnson (D-GA) and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) at a press conference on Capitol Hill to announce the reintroduction of the Restoring Artistic Protection Act. Intended to protect artists' freedom of creative expression, the Restoring Artistic Protection Act would limit the use of song lyrics in court — a common practice that disproportionately affects rap and hip-hop artists. Artists and industry advocates including Academy CEO, Harvey Mason jr. and Academy Black Music Collective Chair, Rico Love shared their views on the importance of passing this legislation and ensuring all artists can create freely without fear of their work being criminalized. Recording Academy® Implements Major Changes for 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards®
The Recording Academy® announced today that it has made significant changes to its Awards process that reflect its ongoing commitment to evolve with the musical landscape and to ensure that the GRAMMY Awards® rules and guidelines are transparent and equitable. Among the changes are the elimination of Nominations Review Committees, a reduction in the number of categories in which voters may vote, two GRAMMY® Award category additions, and more. These updates are a result of extensive discussions and collaboration over the course of the last year amongst a special subcommittee of Recording Academy members and elected leaders, and were voted on by the Academy’s Board of Trustees. These changes go into effect immediately for the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards® taking place Jan. 31, 2022. The eligibility period for the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards is Sept. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021.
